
Coastal Kayaking - Basic
Strokes & Rescues Course
(Sea Kayak Required w/ bulkheads or flotation)
Duration - 8 hours
Prerequisite - Intro to Kayaking, Essentials of
Kayak Touring or equivalent experience.
Objective: The intent of the Coastal Kayaking
Course is to learn how to travel safely and efficiently in a sea
kayak (bulkheads or flotation).
Overview: We will review and discuss how to get
in and out of your kayak both in and out of the water. We will
review the basic strokes and do some refinement of them. Wet exits,
rescues, tides & currents, emergency procedures will all be
discussed and practiced. We will introduce charts and compass
use as well as basic navigation.
Cost $90
Equipment Required: Sea Kayak (w/ bulkheads or
flotation), Skirt, Paddle, paddle float, bilge pump and PFD are
required, but not included in the above cost but can be supplied
for an additional cost of $40.
