
Essentials of Kayak Touring
Course
Duration - 8 hours
Prerequisite - Kayak Quick Start, Intro
to Kayaking or some kayaking experience.
Objective: The intent of the Essentials Course
is to familiarize the student with strokes, rescues and environmental
conditions that effect kayaking trips on still, protected water.
Overview: We will review and discuss the various
stokes used to maneuver the kayak (forward, sweep, back, stop
& draw stokes) as well as actually practice a number of rescues.
In addition, this course will get into more detail about tides
& currents, emergency equipment/procedures, "rules of
the road" with other traffic, use of a VHF radio and other
procedures. You will get wet in this course so plan accordingly!
At the completion of this course, kayakers can paddle comfortably
within swimming distance of shore in protected areas.
Cost $90
Equipment Required: Boat, Paddle and PFD are not
included in the above cost, but can be supplied for an additional
$25/person.
